The town is named after Genesis 26:22. <strong>Rehovot</strong>, literally means <em>wide expanses</em>.</p>
<p>It was founded by Polish Jews who wanted an independent town from Baron Edmund de Rithschild&#8217;s management in 1890. Immigrants coming from Yemen joined its early settlers in 1906.</p>

<p>Most of its people are salaried workers while the rest are self-employed. Schools are also given attention by its government; in fact, there are 53 primary and secondary schools in the city. Aside from the famous Weizmann Institute of Science and Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Rehovot has other College Schools that provide technical training to students. Kaplan Hospital is also used as an ancillary teaching hospital for the medical school of Hebrew University of Jerusalem.</p>
