Booming agriculture industry
The early settlers of Rehovot were determined to make their place fruitful and progressive.
They planted almond vineyards, orchards and citrus groves. Rehovot became the top citrus producer in Israel in 1965.
Its rising economy attracted a lot of other immigrants that in between 1914 and 1991, its population more than doubled. Its industries ranged from packaging and production of citrus concentrates, manufacturing of plastic products and pharmaceuticals, production of imitated leather products and cereal production.
